Experiential Learning

Our wilderness and adventure-based programming capitalize on our students' innate sense of adventure. Our Adventure-Based Activities are designed to gradually integrate students into more challenging activities as they move through the program. Students learn self-reliance, self-care, team work, and communication skills.

Safety • Trust • Respect • Self-Confidence • Teamwork • Leadership

Nestled in the heart of the natural beauty of the High Peaks Wilderness, Mountain Lake Academy provides ample opportunities to experience the diversity of our natural world.  Our staff is experienced mountain athletes who are passionate about sharing their knowledge with young people. Here at Mountain Lake Academy, we see nature as not just a medium for education, but the canvas upon which we paint our lives.

Mountain Lake Academy is nestled in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains, the perfect location to help students engage with the natural world. Our adventure-based programming helps students take measured risks, learn transferable skills, and work as a team to overcome challenges.

Constructed on our campus in 2018, our high ropes course serves as a form of experiential therapy. Used as a complementary therapy, the high ropes course helps facilitate personal growth and build coping skills by reinforcing the goal of replacing negative behaviors or thoughts with positive ones.

Recreation

In addition to adventure-based activities that are part of our Wilderness Program, students expend energy daily in our full-sized indoor gym, as well as playing traditional sports including basketball, soccer, kickball, volleyball, and softball.
