Outdoor Education

Mountain Lake Academy offers a variety of wilderness-based experiences on our 100 acres of trails and in the six million acres of the Adirondack Park that include hiking, mountain biking, canoeing, back-country skiing, snowshoeing, rock climbing, and multi-day expeditions. These Adventure-Based Activities are facilitated by trained and experienced Wilderness Counselors and Guides, experts who teach students to explore the natural world responsibly and support them in transitioning the lessons that they learn in the wilderness into everyday life.

Learning in Nature

We offer four-season experiential education outside of the classroom that focuses on building positive social change, challenging personal perceptions of limitations, and building on successes from prior activities.

Our wilderness  programming appeals to our students' innate sense of adventure. In partnership with our wilderness educators, students are challenged to apply the lessons they learn on wilderness trips to their daily lives, facilitating self-discovery and personal growth.

Our Adventure-Based Activities are designed to gradually integrate students into more challenging activities as they move through the program. Students learn self-reliance, self-care, team work, communication skills, and experience the physical, emotional, and psychological benefits of physical activity.
